THE INDIVIDUAL AND HUMANITY

Greetings, my dearest friends. God bless every one of you. Blessed be your path, your development, your continuous growth as individuals. Most of my friends who have pursued this path for some time, and who have truly been desirous of understanding their most hidden problems, again and again experience phases of relief, of enlightenment when they encounter within themselves factors which at last unquestionably explain discontent, unfulfillment, tension, frustration, and other hindrances to full living. The deep insight which comes as a result of relentless self-confrontation truly sets you free. It liberates you from confinement and compulsion, and enables you to freely choose your inner and outer course in life and being. Change becomes possible only when it is a free choice. This, in turn, is possible only when you have attained deep understanding.

Many of you have already experienced the joy and freedom of being able to cope with aspects of life you could not cope with previously. At the beginning, when deep and thorough understanding is still lacking or is only partial, such periods are short-lived. They alternate with periods of confusion and depression. But the more you master the dark phases by the will to understand their inner significance, and by not shirking to overcome the resistance to do so, the negative periods will be less frequent, as well as shorter, and the phases of liberation, peace and joyfulness will grow longer. The more you realize that each negative phase contains a special lesson, that each disturbing happening harbors a knowledge you desperately need in order to find yourself and live the full and satisfying life you are destined to live, the easier will it become to make disturbances and crises productive experiences of short duration. All this is not new, I have said it before, but it is only too easy to forget it if you have not repeatedly experienced the blessings of working yourself out of unpleasant moods, irritations or depressions, rather than waiting for life to remove the outer provocation.

The Essence of Life

MOVEMENT, CONSCIOUSNESS, EXPERIENCE: PLEASURE, THE ESSENCE OF LIFE

Greetings, my dearest friends. God bless all of you. Blessed be this path of self-realization and self-unfoldment. All of you who make serious efforts to overcome your inborn resistance to facing and changing what is unrealistic and therefore destructive in yourselves will begin to reap the fruits of this endeavor. You will notice an increasing awareness of yourselves, and an increasing liberation of vital forces and energies.

Tonight I shall attempt to link several points that we had previously looked at separately, because you then lacked the inner understanding to establish a linkage. The general progress of this group now enables me to go deeper. And, as you know, on the deepest level all cosmic and human aspects unify.

A long time ago, I gave a lecture about the life force.1 Let us look into this again with the greater understanding you have gained. The life force is a free-flowing energy current, manifest in the entire universe. Wherever an organization fulfills certain essential conditions, it tunes into the life force. The life force permeates and revitalizes it. It lives. A living organism comes into existence.

We previously defined life from various points of view. Let us now be very simple about it. There are three essential elements that determine life: movement, consciousness, and experience. As you may have noticed from a number of topics in the past, as well as from other observations, there are many triads in the spiritual structures of life. If harmony prevails in the living organism, the triad forms a whole, in which one aspect of the triad blends, balances, and harmoniously combines the other two. If the organism is in disharmony with the universal laws, the three factors oppose one another. So it is with this triad.

Duality Through Illusion

DUALITY THROUGH ILLUSION -- TRANSFERENCE

Greetings, my dearest friends. God bless all of you. Blessed be this hour.

So long as human beings are negatively involved with life, they must remain in the earth-life cycles because this particular sphere offers the conditions that are compatible with their negative involvement. Only after having overcome negative involvements will the cycle of births into this sphere cease and human development continue in other spheres, offering new conditions, compatible with the new state.

What does negative involvement mean? It means, primarily, confused notions of reality, confused concepts. Where confusion, and therefore illusion, prevails there must, of necessity, be conflict -- split concepts -- which divides the psyche. Split and conflict is the consequence of illusion or misunderstanding. As people gain inner unity by perceiving and experiencing true reality, the split mends and negative involvement ceases.

This idea has been expressed in many different ways throughout the ages. If it is fully understood, no possible doubt can arise about reincarnation which, for many people, is but a vague belief, a theory. Everyone who has profoundly experienced the reincarnational aspect of creation recognizes that it cannot be any other way. For as long as a person has not dealt with the flaws in himself that separate him from truth and reality, he or she has to live within conditions that manifest the illusory state. That state produces the conditions and the environment which, in turn, offer the only possible means to learn, recognize, and overcome the illusions. Therefore this earth life expresses the general state of humanity as well as the split produced by a confusion about reality.

Shame

SHAME: A LEGACY OF CHILDHOOD EXPERIENCES, EVEN FAVORABLE ONES

Greetings, my dearest friends. Blessings for all of you. Blessed be your efforts, your progress, and your life as a whole. May tonight's lecture again help you advance a step forward on your path. Perhaps it may also encourage some new friends to enter this path. This lecture is primarily destined to reach inner areas ready to be uncovered in deep self-exploration.

Your every effort, even if at the moment you feel discouraged or hopeless, must be crowned with success if you persevere. What may now appear as defeat will soon prove to be victory, an absolutely necessary experience. Please remember, when you go through a difficult period, that the difficulty is not caused by this work, but by your unresolved problems that still exist. Remind yourself that awareness is the key -- becoming aware of what is in you at the moment. My friends, you are not yet sufficiently conscious of what really bothers you. If you realize this, you will know how to proceed in the right direction. You will not be in despair, because you will see the missing link and cease to be confused and lost.

Tonight I should like to discuss two specific topics. At first they will seem unrelated, but they are not, and we shall establish their connection. The first topic is shame. This was discussed in the
past in certain connections, such as the shame of the higher self, or shame of certain shortcomings. I now will focus on this topic from a very specific perspective.

REACHING THE SPIRITUAL CENTER
STRUGGLE BETWEEN THE LOWER SELF
AND THE SUPERIMPOSED CONSCIENCE

Greetings, my dearest friends. Blessings for all of you. Blessed be this hour.

In the past working year, all my friends who have really and truly worked on this path have overcome the inherent resistance to face themselves and subsequently change. You have made considerable progress. I daresay most of you will feel an extension of awareness, a raising of your consciousness in many respects. Often, where life previously seemed hopeless because outside solutions seemed evermore beyond your control and unattainable, you now begin to glimpse an occasional shaft of light that suggests a more profound comprehension of your inner disturbances. You now understand why a certain unhappiness or unfulfillment is a result of inner error and confusion. This, in itself, is bound to bring hope and security. It eliminates feeling an innocent victim of circumstances beyond your control. By understanding a little more of cause and effect in your own life, and seeing it in practice, a sense of security is instilled in you, a sense that this is not such a bad world to live in, after all. Such thoughts may not be conscious, but affect the psyche when sufficient insight has been reached.

Some of you may find yourselves in one of those phases before an important recognition when all seems doubly confused. At such times your struggle is often very painful until you have truly come face to face within yourself with something you had wished rather to avoid. Then, as all of you have discovered, the feeling of liberation and strength, of hope and light, is such a profound experience that its effect can never leave you. But while you are engaged in this struggle, your overall view of your path may be befogged. It is difficult to evaluate, at such times, what you have accomplished, what remains to be done, where you stand, and to what degree you have fully comprehended your inner disturbances and deviations. Nevertheless, by now you have sufficiently penetrated into the depths of yourself to be aware to some degree of your progress and of what still remains to be accomplished.
